What if the answer is not a new revenue model?

Sometimes, in journalism circles, people talk about coming up with a new revenue model. The ways we obtain revenue aren't working, people say. We need new ways.
But what if that's not the answer? Consider that it may not be. You've already got revenue models, whether fundraising, paid ads, events, or otherwise. Connecting with your community emotionally can be the equivalent of squirting lighter fluid on a revenue campfire. Slight adjustments in your news product that are ethical and community-oriented can seal the emotional deal with your audience. It can be a wholesome change that benefits your community, one that has everyone talking about your product, believing in your product, and wanting to be associated with your product.
They will buy your ads. They will go to your banquet. They will subscribe. In short, I have seen in my experience as an emotionally engaged journalist that we can have our cake and eat it too.
Try emotionally connecting with your community, and I predict you will be amazed with the results.
